                                      ART

Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or artworks , expressing the author's imaginative, conceptual ideas, or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. 

The three classical branches of art are painting, sculpture and architecture. Music, theatre, film, dance, and other performing arts, as well as literature and other media such as interactive media, are included in a broader definition of the arts.

                                                   Craft

— craft or trade is a pastime or a profession that requires particular skills and knowledge of skilled work.

— The term "craft" denotes a skill, usually employed in branches of the decorative arts (eg. ceramics), or in an associated artistic practice (eg. lace-making). A key feature of crafts is that they involve a high degree of "hands-on" craftsmanship rather than just skill with a machine.

— Craft is a profession that requires skilled work.

— Craft should serve two purposes: decorative as well as functional.

— Craft includes objects such as ceramic pottery, glass, fiber, metal works and jewelry as they serve both an aesthetic purpose as well as functional purpose.

— Crafting required a higher level of education in the particular craft, with the business being passed down generation to generation in families.

— In order to become a craftsman, a person would require to first go through extensive study of the material and then complete an internship under a craftsman with a similar trade, following which he could then become a part of the guild and be able to sell or exchange goods and create his own shop.

                                                  Art Vs Craft

Weaving, painting, sculpture, pottery, photography, embroidery, macramé, etc. is it art or craft?

· These are two forms of creativity that commonly people don’t see any difference in them.
· But the fact is that art is different from the craft in a sense that art is a creative merit that comes from within.
· The craft is skilled work, wherein there is an application of technique, that people learn through much practice.

— Art is described as an unstructured and open-ended form of work; that expresses emotions, feelings, and vision. Craft denotes a form of work, involving the creation of physical objects, by the use of hands and brain.

— Art relies on artistic merit whereas craft is based on learned skills and technique.

— Art is well known for serving an aesthetic purpose. On the other hand, craft serves human objectives.

— Art gives particular attention to ideas, feelings and visual qualities. Conversely, craft gives stress on the right use of tools and materials, and the application of technique.

— There is a flow of emotion in art, which emerges from heart and soul. In contrast, the craft is the product of the mind.

— The duplicability of art forms is not possible while craft forms can easily be copied.

— Art is the consequence of an individual’s innate ability. On the contrary, craft is the result of learned ability and experience.
